Welcome Dr. Price, the former Secretary of Health and Human Services of the United States

Former United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Thomas Price recently came to Taiwan, not just to publicly voice his support in favor of Taiwan’s inclusion in the World Health Assembly, but also to visit Taipei VGH last May 2nd. He was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and welcomed by hospital superintendent Prof. Deh-Ming Chang and vice superintendent Prof. Wei-Ming Chen. The two sides exchanged views on the development of national health insurance, as well as the Taipei VGH medical system and the services it offers. Dr. Thomas Price was also very impressed with the artificial intelligence (AI) clinic and imaging system of Taipei VGH. In addition, a new cancer research laboratory was established in Taipei VGH in collaboration with National Yang-Ming University and the United States National Cancer Institute. The facility will be financed by a fund set up by Nina Solarz in memory of her late husband United States Representative Stephen Solarz to support cancer research. This is the first time that a lung cancer research program will be conducted in Asia.

Dr. Thomas Price has expressed his affirmation and hopes that Taiwan and the United States will continue to its exchange and cooperation in the medical biotechnology industry in order to find out the differences between Asian and Western cancer genes and develop precise treatment methods to treat such cancers.
